Our green friendly approach
Lower Impact Remodel
Prior to launching the rental listing, we renovated many areas of the home. But, we used a combination of eco-friendly building materials, re-using as many of the original materials as possible, and repurposing or donating the materials we couldn’t re-use to projects that work to ensure old building materials don’t end up in landfills. One of our favorite building materials used to create this beautiful home is microcement showers, which is naturally antimicrobial, and requires less demolition (waste) than other comparable shower renovations.
Additionally, we selected appliances with high efficiency ratings, including an induction range.
For residents who are new to the PNW, our region is reducing our dependency on natural gas and focusing on electric appliances when possible. Our selection of induction cooking not only aligns with this goal, but provides residents with a safe, eco-friendly and better way to cook. Induction heating is instant, and reduces energy usage compared to both traditional electric and gas ranges.
Compost & Recycling
We provide a countertop compost bin for guest use. Please use this for food scraps (check the composting guide for what and what not to compost!). Composting not only reduces waste, but returns nutrients to the soil!
We use the local garbage service to pick-up guest recycling, further reducing the amount of trash created during guest trips!
Green Cleaning
All of our cleaning products are eco-friendly, and are safe for the nearby lake environment. This ensures that the sensitive lake, creek, and wetland ecosystems of Cottage Lake will not be negatively affected by our renters or the turnover between rental tenants. We provide tenants with natural and plant based all purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, floor cleaner, septic safe toilet cleaner, stainless steel cleaner, and stove top cleaner.
Between mid-term residents, our cleaning crew uses the same natural, but effective cleaning products to ensure a clean and healthy environment for the next renters.
